Biparjoy devastation in Gujarat: 2 died, 22 injured: 940 villages lost power

94 thousand people have been shifted to safer places due to cyclone

New Delhi, 16 June (City Times): There was heavy damage in Gujarat after Cyclone Biparjoy hit the Jakhau coast. Its effect remained in 8 districts including Kutch-Saurashtra. It has left behind a huge devastation. Trees and poles fell at many places. Two people lost their life in Bhavnagar due to this cyclone. More than 22 people have been injured. So far 94 thousand people have been shifted to safer places.Heavy rain is lashing the entire state including Mandvi, Naliya, Narayan Sarovar, Jakhou Port, Mundra and Gandhidham in Kutch. Winds are blowing at a speed of 90 to 125 kmph. More than 940 villages have lost electricity. At the same time, 4600 rural areas have been cut off due to floods and road closures.

Cyclone Biparjoy has reached Rajasthan, heavy rain in Jalore

Cyclone Biparjoy hit strucked Jakhau coast of Kutch in Gujarat at 6.30 pm on Thursday. The landfall lasted till midnight. During this the wind speed was 115 to 125 kmph. Earlier, coastal areas including Kutch, Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Junagadh, Gandhidham and Morbi received heavy rains accompanied by strong winds. Now the storm is moving towards north-south Rajasthan. Cyclone Biparjoy has reached Rajasthan on Friday after Gujarat. There is red alert in Barmer and Jalore today and it is raining with strong winds. Jalore has recorded 69MM of rain till Friday morning. Here, thunderstorms are continuing in Jaisalmer as well. Trees and poles have fallen due to strong winds in Barmer and Sirohi. Due to the storm, Red Alert has been issued for very heavy rain in 5 districts of Rajasthan including Friday and Saturday, while Orange Alert has been issued for heavy rain in 13 districts. It will remain in effect till June 18 in the state.

The Coast Guard had deployed 15 ships and 7 aircrafts keeping in mind this natural calamity. 27 teams of NDRF were also deployed. PM Modi talked with Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel and reviewed about the ground situation of the state after the cyclone. After communicating with Prime minister Bhupendra Patel visited the State Control Room and reviewed the steps takes to tackle the situation.

So far, power supply has been restored in more than 3500 rural areas. Winds are still blowing at a speed of 80 to 90 kmph in the coastal areas. This is affecting the rescue operation. Indian Meteorological Department informed that the center of the cyclone (I) is spread over a radius of about 50 km. This shows its seriousness. During the advancement of the cyclone Biparjoy in the Arabian Sea, sea waves reached up to 10 to 14 meters height. After the Biparjoy hited the shore on Thursday, sea waves in the Navlakhi area reached up to 7.5 meter. The waves rose even higher at the Sangam Narayan Temple in Dwarka.
