Chennai, Feb 23 (City Times): Along with imparting education, discipline and grooming students into responsible citizens of tomorrow, SRM Valliammai Engineering College also ensures that the creative latent talents of the students are duly tapped and showcased in the most effective manner possible.
The College Day celebrations of SRM VEC were held on the 23rd of February 2023 in the grand ambience of the Dr.T.P. Ganesan Auditorium which is an architectural magnificence. The spirit of celebration and display of talents demonstrated the enthusiasm of the students.
The official function of the college day celebration began in the august presence of the Chief Guest for the day, Lakshman Prakash.M.P, Global HR Head-IoT-DE TCS and R.Harini, Correspondent, SRM Valliammai Engineering College. Dr.B.Chidhambararajan Director, SRMVEC, welcomed the gathering with great enthusiasm. Dr.M.Murugan, Principal, SRM Valliammai Engineering College, presented the annual report showcasing the laurels in academics, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities of students and faculties.
Dr. S.Ramachandran, Director, Academics, SRM Group felicitated the Chief Guest and Dr.J.J.Monica Paul introduced the Chief Guest to the audience.
In his speech, the Chief Guest Lakshman Prakash.M.P motivated the students to aim for a bright and prosperous career ahead. The inspired the students to look at broader perspectives in their future career. He spoke about the importance of participating in cultural events in order to build self confidence and self-esteem.
He also gave away prizes to the meritorious students for their commendable academic performance and the best outgoing students from various departments. The staff members were also appreciated and rewarded for their R&D, books written and results produced.
The Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr.D.Elango, Professor and HoD- Department of Civil Engineering. The College Day celebrations brought in a great deal of cheer and happiness as it was indeed a welcome break from the regular routine of academics. The cultural extravaganza began with a devotional song seeking the blessings of the almighty. The traditional classical dances – Bharathanatyam and Mohiniyattam were performed brilliantly by the students with great coordination and grace.
The VEC musical band brought in a melodious bouquet of favourite lilting songs that enthralled the audience. The students also put up an interesting Mime show which caught the attention of the audience. The splendid Cosmic dance –‘Shiva Thandavam’ gripped the audiences’ interest.
Students trained in Yoga and Silambam displayed their dexterous skills on stage which impressed the young and old alike. The main show stealers were the rampant dance performances of students of various departments. The intricate amalgamation of the music, rhythm, lights, choreography, costumes and of course the dancers carried the audience away. The College day will surely remain etched in the minds of the audience forever. The students carried home happy memories of a memorable day.
