Chennai/New Delhi, 21 June(City Times): The Supreme Court in New Delhi today approved the transfer of Tamil Nadu minister V Senthil Balaji from custody to a private hospital. Balaji was being treated at a government hospital in Chennai after he was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate.
The Madras High Court ruling was challenged by the Enforcement Directorate in the Supreme Court after Balaji was detained in connection with a purported cash-for-jobs fraud in the state transport department. Balaji’s relocation has been approved by the high court.

The petition was still ongoing in the high court, and the ED was instructed to contact that court by a vacation bench of Supreme Court consisiting Justices Surya Kant and M. M. Sundresh.Any oral remarks made by this court shall not affect the case, the bench stated in posting the case for hearing on July 4. The high court’s views were contained in an interim order.

Tamil Nadu’s Minister of Electricity, Prohibition, and Excise, Bajali, was detained on June 14 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in connection with a purported cash-for-jobs fraud that allegedly occurred while he served as Transport Minister in an AIADMK administration under J Jayalalithaa. After Balaji’s wife filed a habeas corpus petition alleging unlawful arrest, the top court issued an interim injunction.
