Jakarta, Indonesia, 13 September (City Times):Jaishankar and Russian Counterpart Lavrov: India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, met with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, in Jakarta during the ASEAN events. The discussions revolved around pressing international matters, with a significant focus on the Ukraine conflict. The two ministers also engaged in dialogues concerning various bilateral economic issues.
External Affairs Minister Jaishankar, sharing the meeting’s highlights on Twitter, said, “Met with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov of Russia in Jakarta today.
Discussed bilateral economic issues, as also matters pertaining to the Ukraine conflict.” This meeting underscores the importance of diplomatic dialogue between India and Russia, two significant global players.
The Russian Foreign Ministry also acknowledged the meeting, tweeting, “Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Minister of External Affairs of India Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar hold talks on the sidelines of the #ASEAN events.” The engagement further solidifies the diplomatic ties between the two nations.
This meeting follows Jaishankar’s earlier interaction with ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn, where they discussed expanding India-ASEAN cooperation into finance, cyber, and maritime domains.
