New Delhi/ Chennai, 03 June 2023 (City Times). The number of people killed in the rail accident in Balasore in Odisha on Friday evening has risen to 288. More than 900 people were injured. The incident occurred near the Bahanga Market Station around 7 p.m. on Friday. The news agency has provided information from the railway that the armored system that stops the crash between trains did not exist on this route. 28 hours after the accident, the railway minister or railways ministry did not say anything about the causes of the accident until Saturday evening at 6 p.m. The Minister has repeatedly examined the matter. The news agency has from sources said that the signal failure may also be the cause of the accident.

An hour after the accident, the news of a train derailment came in Balasore at around 8 pm on 2 june. After this, it was known that the second train was derailed. At around 10 pm, it became clear that two passenger trains and a goods train had collided. Initially, there was information about 30 people killed, but late in the night this figure crossed 200. Railway officials said that a goods train was standing on the outer line of Bahanga Bazar station. The Coromandel Express going from Howrah to Chennai derailed here and collided with a goods train. The engine of the express overturned the goods train and the bogies fell onto the third track. After some time, the Howrah-Bengaluru Duronto coming on the third track hit the coaches of the Coromandel Express.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the spot around 4 pm on Saturday. He also met the injured in the hospital. He said that whoever is guilty of the accident will not be spared. Instructions have been given for all kinds of inquiry. We will take lessons from this incident and rectify the system. The PM thanked those who helped the injured.
