Prajwal Revanna Disqualification: HD Deve Gowda’s Grandson, Loses Lok Sabha Seat ; Karnataka High Court’s Shocking Disqualification Of 2019 Lok Sabha Election Victory

Prajwal Revanna Disqualification: The judgment, delivered by Justice K Natarajan, partially upholds two petitions filed by G Devarajegowda, a constituent, and A Manju, who contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as a BJP candidate against Revanna.

Bengaluru, 01 September (City Times): Prajwal Revanna Disqualification: In a significant ruling, the Karnataka High Court has invalidated the election victory of Prajwal Revanna, a Member of Parliament representing Hassan and the grandson of JD(S) leader and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda. The judgment, delivered by Justice K Natarajan, partially upholds two petitions filed by G Devarajegowda, a constituent, and A Manju, who contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as a BJP candidate against Revanna.

Election Malpractice Uncovered

The petitions alleged that Prajwal Revanna engaged in election malpractice and failed to declare his assets to the Election Commission. Justice Natarajan, in his verdict, declared Revanna’s election as “null and void.” However, the court did not accede to the petitioners’ request to declare Manju as the winner, as he was also found to be “involved in corrupt practices.”

Action Against Key Figures

Furthermore, the High Court has directed the Election Commission of India to take appropriate action against Prajwal Revanna for election malpractice, as per the Conduct of Election Process Rules. Additionally, the court ordered the Election Commission to issue notices and enforce the Conduct of Election Process Rules against Prajwal Revanna’s father, H D Revanna (an MLA and former minister), and his brother, Suraj Revanna (an MLC), for their involvement in corrupt practices during the election.

Allegations of Asset Concealment and Fraud

The petitions presented various instances of malpractice, including the concealment of assets by Prajwal Revanna. Notably, it was claimed that a convention hall owned by Revanna was undervalued significantly. Additionally, allegations of income tax fraud and multiple assets held by benamis were raised against the MP. This verdict is poised to have far-reaching implications in Karnataka’s political landscape, as Prajwal Revanna’s election disqualification reverberates through the state’s political circles.
