Punjab CM Mann Accuses Governor of Threatening Peace, Asserts Law and Order Control

Banwarilal Purohit’s Warning Letter Draws Strong Criticism from Bhagwant Mann (Punjab CM Mann)

Governor’s Warning Sparks Political Tensions in Punjab

Chandigarh, August 26 (City Times): Punjab CM Mann, has lashed out at Governor Banwarilal Purohit for his recent letter, which warned of potential President’s Rule in the state. Mann, in response, accused the Governor of threatening the state’s peace-loving citizens and emphasized that law and order remain well under control.

Speaking to the media, Mann disclosed that most of the Governor’s letters had already received responses. He pointed out that the Governor’s letter had raised concerns about the state’s law and order situation. Mann highlighted his government’s accomplishments, citing recent achievements in curbing drug-related issues, with 41 kg of heroin seized in August alone, 753 gangster arrests, and the confiscation of 786 weapons and vehicles. He insisted that Punjab’s law and order situation was firmly in hand.

Mann also questioned whether the Governor had ever written a letter regarding the state’s demand for the release of the Rural Development Fund from the Centre. He remarked, Out of the 16 letters sent by the Governor, we’ve already provided responses to nine of them. The remaining letters will be addressed in due course.

What’s the rush? Did the Governor ever write about Punjab’s Rural Development Fund? Did he ever inquire about the welfare of our farmers? Governor Sahab, have you ever stood in solidarity with Punjab? It’s clear that the desire for power is evident in all these letters. The Governor hails from Nagpur but also has ties to Rajasthan. If you seek power, contest elections there and become Chief Minister.”

The Chief Minister informed the public that the state government is actively working to provide relief to those affected by floods and discussed the challenges associated with releasing State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) funds. Mann elucidated, “At present, Punjab finds itself contending with the consequences of flooding, and it’s imperative that we approach these challenges in a well-structured manner.” We have Rs 9600 crore of SDRF funds at our disposal, but due to stringent central rules, we are unable to disburse them to the people.”

Banwarilal Purohit had previously sent a strongly-worded letter to the Chief Minister, warning that he might recommend President’s Rule in the state and initiate criminal proceedings if his letters remained unanswered. In his letter, Purohit expressed concerns about the constitutional machinery in the state and urged Mann to act before he takes any final decisions under Article 356 of the Constitution, along with the provisions of Section 124 of the Indian Penal Code.

The Governor emphasized his duty, as per the Constitution, to ensure that the administration operates efficiently, impartially, and within the bounds of the law. He advised and warned the Chief Minister to respond to his letters and provide the requested information promptly to avoid legal actions.
