Remarks on PM Modi : New delhi 08 jan (CITY TIMES). In a bid to address escalating tensions between India and the Maldives following derogatory remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian High Commissioner to Maldives, Munu Mahawar, engaged in a pre-arranged meeting with Ali Naseer Mohamed, the Ambassador at Large at the Maldivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Male.

Diplomatic Encounter Amidst Turmoil: The recent diplomatic rendezvous between High Commissioner Munu Mahawar and Ambassador Ali Naseer Mohamed took place against the backdrop of an ongoing dispute between India and the Maldives. This conflict stems from disrespectful comments made by Maldivian leaders regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Lakshadweep.

Unraveling the Discord

The discord unfolded when Maldives Deputy Minister of Youth Empowerment, Mariyam Shiuna, made disparaging remarks on PM Modi’s Lakshadweep visit, which were later deleted. The incident triggered a substantial controversy, leading to diplomatic engagements and actions to mitigate the fallout.

Maldivian Leadership’s Response

Attempting to contain the fallout, the Maldivian government distanced itself from the derogatory comments. Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Moosa Zameer, expressed that such remarks against foreign leaders were deemed “unacceptable” and did not align with the official stance of the Maldivian government. Zameer reiterated the commitment to fostering positive and constructive dialogues with all partners, especially neighboring countries.

Global Solidarity for PM Modi: Beyond diplomatic circles, voices from India’s film fraternity emerged in support of PM Modi, condemning the offensive remarks by Maldivian leaders. These individuals also endorsed PM Modi’s initiative to promote beach tourism in Lakshadweep, showcasing a united front against the divisive comments.

Former Maldivian Leaders Speak Out

Former Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and ex-Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid condemned the use of “hateful language” against India. Solih emphasized India’s enduring friendship with the Maldives and urged both nations to preserve this longstanding bond despite recent challenges. Shahid echoed similar sentiments, denouncing the reprehensible and odious nature of the remarks made by Maldivian leaders.

In the face of diplomatic tensions fueled by derogatory comments, the meeting between the Indian High Commissioner and the Maldivian Ambassador at Large serves as a testament to the resilience of diplomatic relations. The commitment expressed by both nations to uphold positive and constructive dialogues provides hope for the restoration of amicable ties. As leaders and influencers unite against divisive rhetoric, the incident underscores the significance of preserving diplomatic decorum for fostering enduring friendships between nations.
