Amit Shah Explanation On Women Quota Implementation : Union Home Minister’s Definitive Explanation on Opposition’s 2 major queries concerning the delay Spurs Debate

Amit Shah Explanation On Women Quota Implementation : Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the importance of the Delimitation Commission in the country’s electoral process during the debate on the bill in the special parliamentary session.

New Delhi, 20 September (City Times): Amit Shah Explanation On Women Quota Implementation: In a parliamentary session, Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the Opposition’s two major queries concerning the delay in implementing the women’s quota. He explained the significance of the Delimitation Commission and the role of census data in making decisions regarding seat reservations. Additionally, he shed light on the alleged delay, emphasizing that the census and delimitation process would commence after the upcoming general election.

The government is making efforts to pass a bill reserving 33 percent of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies during the current special parliamentary session. However, this reservation can only be put into effect after the completion of a census and delimitation exercise, which, as per Article 82, can be conducted after 2026.(Amit Shah Explanation On Women Quota)

This extended timeline for quota implementation until 2029 has raised questions from multiple political parties.

The Significance of the Delimitation Commission

Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the importance of the Delimitation Commission in the country’s electoral process during the debate on the bill in the special parliamentary session.

He emphasized that if one-third of seats are to be reserved for women, the question arises as to who should carry out this reservation process. He pointed out that if the government takes on this responsibility, it may face allegations of political bias, as seen with seats like Wayanad or Hyderabad. This comment was directed at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who had earlier questioned the need for a new census and delimitation to implement the women’s quota.(Amit Shah Explanation On Women Quota)

Addressing the Delay Issue

Mr. Shah responded to concerns raised by Opposition parties about the delay in implementing the women’s quota. He argued that it was more prudent to entrust the task to the Delimitation Commission to ensure transparency.

Additionally, Mr. Shah addressed Rahul Gandhi’s statement that the bill in its current form is “incomplete” and called for OBC reservation to be included.

The Role of OBC Reservation

Amit Shah refuted the idea that secretaries run the country, asserting that the government is the driving force. He also highlighted that 85 BJP MPs and 29 ministers belong to Other Backward Classes (OBC).

He acknowledged that some individuals on social media are forming opinions against the bill due to the absence of OBC and Muslim reservations and the need for delimitation. He urged them to support the bill, as even without their support, it would not come into effect before 2029. He stressed the importance of initiating the process.

In summary, Amit Shah addressed key concerns related to the delay in implementing the women’s quota, the role of the Delimitation Commission, and the potential inclusion of OBC reservation in the bill. He emphasized transparency and the need to move forward with the quota implementation process.(Amit Shah Explanation On Women Quota)
