Patna, 12 October (City Times): Bihar Train Accident: In a tragic turn of events, Bihar witnessed a major train accident, leading to the cancellation and diversion of numerous train services. On this ill-fated day, more than 12 coaches of the 12506 Delhi-Kamakhya North East Express derailed near the Raghunathpur station in Bihar’s Buxar district. This incident resulted in significant casualties, with at least six lives lost and nearly 100 individuals injured.

Bihar Train Accident: The Untimely Disaster

The horrific mishap occurred near the Raghunathpur station of Danapur division, close to Buxar, around 9:35 pm. Thankfully, there have been no reports of casualties due to this incident, according to an official from Indian Railways, as reported by PTI. However, the physical and emotional impact of the derailment is considerable. Hospitals in Ara, Buxar, and Patna, including PMCH, AIIMS, and IGIMS in the state capital, have been requested to prepare beds to accommodate the injured.

The train involved in this incident, the 12506 Down North East Express, embarked on its journey from Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi at 7:45 am. Its destination was the Kamakhya Junction in Assam’s Guwahati, and the passengers aboard were on a voyage that turned into an unexpected nightmare.

The repercussions of this derailment were not limited to the unfortunate train itself but extended to several other train services. The East Central Railway zone announced a series of cancellations and diversions:

These cancellations and diversions have created significant disruptions in the schedules of various train services, impacting the travel plans of countless passengers.

Rescue and Relief

The rescue and relief operations have been initiated with great urgency. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that the rescue operation was underway on a war footing at the Buxar derailment site.

Multiple agencies, including NDRF, SDRF, district administration, railway officials, and local residents, are working in unison to manage the crisis. The injured have been promptly shifted to hospitals, and a dedicated war room is actively coordinating the rescue efforts.

Government’s Prompt Response

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav wasted no time and directly contacted the district magistrate and SP of Buxar and Arrah. He directed them to make swift arrangements for the injured and ensure that the concerned officers reach the incident site as soon as possible.
