Mohali, 15 September (City Times): Colonel Manpreet Singh’s Son: In a poignant and heart-wrenching moment, the young son and daughter of Colonel Manpreet Singh, one of the brave soldiers martyred in a recent gunfight with terrorists in Anantnag, paid their last respects to their father. The six-year-old son, dressed in military camouflage, offered a salute to his father’s casket as it arrived home in Mullanpur, Mohali district, Punjab. His two-year-old sister, standing beside him, mimicked the salute, a touching display of innocence amid tragedy. The local community held them up as a large crowd gathered to honor the fallen hero.

Inconsolable Family Members

Amid the crowd, the inconsolable grief of Col. Manpreet Singh’s wife, sister, mother, and other family members was palpable. Visuals from the scene depicted the profound sorrow that has befallen their lives. Fatal Encounter with Terrorists

Colonel Manpreet Singh, aged 41, lost his life to gunshot wounds during a fierce encounter with terrorists. The operation was initiated after the army and police received specific intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists in the area. Tragically, this operation resulted in the loss of three valuable lives, including that of the colonel, a major, and a deputy superintendent of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.(Colonel Manpreet Singh’s Son)

Final Farewell to Major Ashish Dhonchak

Major Ashish Dhonchak, who was a part of the search column alongside Colonel Singh and had bravely ventured into the rugged forest terrain, also paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. His body was brought to his native village in Panipat, where thousands of mourners, along with family members and fellow officers, gathered to bid their final farewell. The solemn procession began from Panipat town, with the major’s body transported in an Army vehicle. The last rites, accompanied by a wreath-laying ceremony and a gun salute, were performed at his native village of Binjhol.(Colonel Manpreet Singh’s Son)

A Tearful Adieu To Martyrs

The journey from Panipat town to Binjhol village covered a distance of approximately eight kilometers and took nearly three hours. Throughout the procession, mourners came together to express their deep sorrow and pay tribute to Major Ashish Dhonchak. It was a tearful adieu to a courageous soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Honoring Deputy Superintendent Himayun Muzamil Bhat

The funeral of Deputy Superintendent Himayun Muzamil Bhat, aged 33, also drew a large gathering in Budgam. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and police chief Dilbag Singh were among those who paid their respects to the fallen police officer. The ceremony was a solemn occasion to honor and remember the sacrifice of Deputy Superintendent Bhat, who served in the Jammu and Kashmir Police with dedication and valor.

These brave soldiers and police officers, including Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonchak, and Deputy Superintendent Himayun Muzamil Bhat, have left an indelible mark of heroism and selflessness in their service to the nation. Their sacrifices will forever be remembered with deep respect and gratitude.
