The ill-fated journey began when Advaith and Ajmal, along with three other companions, were returning to Kodungallur. The group had reportedly been using Google Maps for navigation, intending to reach their destination safely. However, what was meant to be a routine trip quickly turned into a nightmarish tragedy.

During that ill-fated journey, the car was transporting four doctors and a nurse, all relying on Google Maps for navigation. The incessant rain had rendered the road conditions exceedingly challenging, and coupled with the rugged terrain, it set the stage for this tragic mishap.

Car Accident Kerala: A Wrong Turn with Fatal Consequences

The incident unfolded when, amidst heavy rainfall and poor visibility, the group followed the directions provided by Google Maps. Unfortunately, a crucial mistake led them to believe that the Periyar river was a waterlogged road. As they proceeded forward, disaster struck. The car began to sink into the river, and the two doctors, Advaith and Ajmal, found themselves trapped inside the vehicle.

Doctors Accident Kerala: Heroic Efforts of Locals

Local residents, alerted by the accident, rushed to the scene and initiated rescue efforts. Alongside their valiant efforts, the fire service personnel were called in for support. Three of the occupants managed to escape the sinking car, albeit with injuries, and were promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Thankfully, their injuries were not life-threatening, and they were discharged following immediate medical care.

Local residents were the unsung heroes of this tragedy. They rushed to the scene, braving the downpour, and managed to rescue three of the passengers from the submerged vehicle. However, the powerful current in the river made the rescue operation exceptionally challenging.

Doctors Car Accident : Recovery and Investigation

Despite the rescue attempts, the lives of Advaith and Ajmal could not be saved. Their bodies were discovered floating in the river. In response to the situation, authorities dispatched a scuba diving team to recover their remains. The bodies were then transported to the very same private hospital where the two doctors had been employed.

After nearly an hour and a half of relentless efforts by both the fire department and local residents, the car was finally located and pulled out of the river. Unfortunately, by this time, it was too late for two of the occupants.

Survivors of the Tragedy

Miraculously, three individuals managed to escape the car’s clutches. Among them was Dr. Khasik, a nurse named Jismon from Kottayam, and Tamanna from Kozhikode, a medical student at Palakkad Karuna Medical College. Their survival is a testament to both their resilience and the valiant efforts of the local residents who rushed to their aid.

Eyewitness Accounts

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the car was speeding at the time of the accident. The first responders, who lived nearby, wasted no time in launching a rescue operation. They managed to pull the three passengers from the back seat of the car to safety. Tragically, 2 doctors, who were in the front, were unable to escape the rising waters and drowned in the river.

This heart-wrenching incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of life and the importance of caution, especially during adverse weather conditions. In the shadow of a rainy night, a celebration turned into an unspeakable tragedy as a car, guided by the digital compass of Google Maps, plunged more than 5 meters into a swollen river. The incident unfolded near the shores of Kaladwathuru, casting a pall of sorrow and raising questions about the role of technology in our lives.

A Perilous Journey Through Torrential Rain

As the heavens wept, the river swelled, rising to meet the very road that had guided countless travellers before. The torrential downpour cloaked the night in a shroud of darkness, obscuring the path ahead from the reach of headlights. In this confluence of adverse conditions, the road’s treacherous end at the river’s edge became nearly indistinguishable.

A Fateful Leap Into the Abyss

Undeterred by the downpour, the car maintained a brisk pace, hurtling towards an unforeseen precipice. In a horrifying leap of faith, it soared from the river’s bank, plummeting more than 5 meters into the water. The river’s fierce current bore witness to the calamity, compounding the peril faced by the ill-fated travelers.

A Frantic Battle Against Nature’s Fury

In the immediate aftermath of the crash, brave rescuers sprang into action, desperately attempting to pluck survivors from the clutches of the voracious river. The rear-seat passengers were fortunate enough to be saved, but the fate of those in the front seat remained uncertain. The chaos and darkness of the night further complicated the rescue operation, testing the mettle of those determined to save lives.

The Haunting Wait for Dawn

As the night wore on, the submerged car lay hidden beneath the murky waters, its secrets concealed by the river’s unforgiving depths. It was not until the arrival of dawn that the vehicle was discovered, but by then, precious time had slipped through the fingers of hope.

The Valiant Efforts of Abdul Haq

Among those who witnessed this heart-wrenching tragedy was Abdul Haq, a native of Malappuram. Living in close proximity to the river with three colleagues, Abdul Haq was stirred from his repose by a piercing noise that rent the night air. Racing to the scene, he discovered a scene of unimaginable horror. Despite the overwhelming shock, he acted swiftly to aid those in need.

A Race Against Time: Rescuing the Survivors

As the waters threatened to engulf the survivors, Abdul Haq managed to pull them to safety. Dr. Khasi, Jismon, and Tamanna clung to life, their futures forever altered by this harrowing experience. The members of the Kerala Police Boat Club, accustomed to navigating water festivals, arrived swiftly and joined the rescue effort.

A Search for Answers: Is Google Maps to Blame?

In the wake of this tragedy, there has been much speculation on social media, with some pointing fingers at Google Maps as the culprit. However, the truth remains elusive. According to one survivor, the route they followed was dictated by Google Maps. She recounted that instead of turning left at the labor intersection, they continued on National Highway 66.

Uncharted Territories on the Digital Map

An examination of the route reveals that turning right from the Labor intersection, descending the Goturut link bridge, turning left at the next intersection, and traveling approximately 400 meters would lead to Kaaluduruttu pier. Just before reaching the road’s terminus at Kalavathuruttu pier, a left turn near Holycross LP School would once again intersect with the Goturuth link bridge.

Lost in Translation: A Tragic Misinterpretation

It appears that the travelers may have inadvertently overlooked this route on Google Maps and continued straight, ultimately meeting their heartbreaking fate in the river’s unforgiving embrace. The tragedy serves as a haunting reminder of the critical importance of vigilance on the road, especially during adverse weather conditions. As questions linger and sorrow deepens, our hearts extend to the families and friends of those touched by this painful event.
