ECIL’s Key Role in Chandrayaan-3 Mission Success

ECIL proudly contributes to the Chandrayaan-3 Mission by providing indigenously designed antenna

Hyderabad, 24 August (City Times): The Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL), a Government of India Enterprise under the Department of Atomic Energy, has been an integral part of the country’s space program since its inception. It has been involved in setting up the ground antenna network at all Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) centers for communication. ECIL proudly contributes to the Chandrayaan-3 Mission by providing indigenously designed antenna systems for Tracking, Telemetry, Command, and Ranging (TTC&R) operations through ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC).

Crucial Antenna Supply for Chandrayaan-3

For the Chandrayaan mission, ECIL supplied a crucial 32-meter Deep Space Network (DSN) antenna. This antenna played a vital role in ensuring effective communication support. Developed in collaboration with Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC), U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), and ISTRAC, the 300-ton Antenna System precisely tracks the spacecraft orbiting the moon at a distance of about 4 lakh kilometers from Earth. It handles command-and-control operations with remarkable precision.

Cutting-Edge Technology at Work

The Antenna System incorporates cutting-edge technology, including precision-formed reflector surfaces with accuracy better than 0.3 millimeters, Wheel and Track Mount, Beam Wave guide, Feed Systems, and Servo Control System. Its development spanned various engineering disciplines such as soil mechanics, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Radio Frequency & Microwave, and Control Engineering. This Antenna System will play a critical role in acquiring data and images from the moon, captured by the Vikram and Pragyan modules.

Integral Support for Space Operations

In addition to the 32-meter DSN antenna, ECIL also supplied 18.11-meter and 7.2-meter Antenna systems, along with a 4.5-meter Ship borne Terminal to ISTRAC. These systems support tracking, telemetry, and command operations for various space missions from launch to completion.

A Vision Beyond Chandrayaan

ECIL’s collaboration with ISRO goes beyond the Chandrayaan mission. It is actively engaged in designing and realizing antenna systems and Safe & Secure Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) for upcoming missions such as Aditya, Gaganyaan, and Mangalyaan 2. This partnership underscores the commitment of ECIL in contributing to India’s space endeavors and technological advancements.

A Remarkable Journey with ISRO

The Electronics Corporation of India Limited’s journey alongside ISRO has been one of mutual support and technological achievements. As a key player in India’s space sector, ECIL’s contributions continue to strengthen the foundation of the country’s ambitious space missions, showcasing India’s prowess in space technology.

Proud Participant in India’s Space Odyssey

ECIL’s involvement in the Chandrayaan-3 Mission stands as a testament to India’s capabilities in space exploration. With its advanced antenna systems and unwavering commitment, ECIL has become an essential partner in realizing ISRO’s vision of pushing the boundaries of space research and technology.
