Former Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy expressed profound gratitude on Sunday, calling his recovery from a stroke his “third birth.”

Bangalore, 03 September (City Times):Former Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy, expressed profound gratitude on Sunday, calling his recovery from a stroke his “third birth.” He attributed his revival to divine intervention and the dedicated medical team that treated him, acknowledging that he now has a fresh opportunity to be with the people of the state.

Timely Treatment and Divine Intervention

Before his discharge, Kumaraswamy extended a heartfelt appeal to the citizens, urging them not to underestimate the symptoms of a stroke or paralysis. He recounted the past five days when friends and family feared for his health. He emphasized the critical importance of recognizing the signs of a stroke and seeking immediate medical attention.

Recognizing the Signs of Stroke

Kumaraswamy recounted the night of August 30 when he woke up at 2 am, feeling unwell. Swift action was taken as he promptly contacted his brother-in-law, renowned cardiologist Dr. C N Manjunath, and consulted a neurologist, who advised immediate hospitalization. He shared his personal experience to highlight the necessity of not delaying medical help when confronted with symptoms of paralysis or stroke.

BE-FAST Method for Stroke Detection

Eminent neurologist and former director of NIMHANS, Dr. P Satishchandra, emphasized the ‘BE-FAST’ method for recognizing a stroke: Balance, Eyes, Face, Arms, Speech, and Time. He urged people to be aware of these symptoms, particularly weakness in the arm, speech difficulties, eye issues, or facial changes, and to promptly seek medical assistance.

Importance of Hospital Selection

Dr. Satishchandra emphasized the importance of selecting the right hospital, one that is fully equipped to handle stroke cases. The hospital should have the necessary equipment and expert personnel to provide timely treatment, known as the “golden hour.” Acting swiftly within the first three hours after noticing symptoms greatly improves the chances of successful treatment.
