This collaborative effort, orchestrated by CommuniTREE, a Chennai-based NGO, involved key players such as the Greater Chennai Corporation, the forest department, the Coast Guard, and the Union Ministry of Sciences. The cleanup initiative covered some of Chennai’s most prominent beaches, including Marina Beach, Elliot’s Beach, Thiruvanmiyur Beach, and Kovalam Beach.

Shockingly, research reveals the presence of approximately 46,000 pieces of plastic debris in every mile of the ocean, posing a severe threat to marine life and ecosystems.
