NASA Locates Crash Site of Luna-25 Russia’s Failed Moon Mission, Discover crater measures about 33 feet

NASA Locates Crash Site of Luna-25 : NASA revealed that its Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) spacecraft has identified a significant crater on the Moon’s surface, which could be the result of Russia’s lunar mission Luna-25.

Chennai, 02 September (City Times): NASA Locates Crash Site of Luna-25 : In a race to reach the Moon’s south pole, Russia’s Luna-25 mission tried to make a soft landing but unfortunately crashed. This happened after India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission. Russia wanted to get to space before India, but it didn’t go as planned. Now, NASA has found the spot where Luna-25 had its crash landing.

NASA’s Discovery

Recently, NASA revealed that its Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) spacecraft has identified a significant crater on the Moon’s surface, which could be the result of Russia’s lunar mission Luna-25. This spacecraft had a crash landing on August 19th. Before and After Images

When Luna-25’s crash was reported by Russia’s space agency Roscosmos on August 21st, NASA quickly directed its LRO spacecraft to capture images of the crash site. These images include “before” and “after” pictures, highlighting a notable change in the lunar landscape. NASA has reason to believe that the new crater is connected to Luna-25’s impact. They began photographing the area on August 24th, starting at 2:15 PM and completing the process in about four hours. Crater Details

The newly discovered crater measures about 33 feet (10 meters) in width and is positioned approximately 360 meters above the Moon’s surface. It is situated at coordinates 57.865 degrees south latitude and 61.360 degrees east longitude, which is roughly 400 kilometers away from Luna-25’s intended landing site.

Russia’s Lunar Ambitions

Russia had ambitious plans for its lunar mission, aiming for a soft landing on the Moon’s south pole. However, technical difficulties during the mission’s orbit placement phase led to its unfortunate crash landing.
