Kolkata, 06 September (City Times): Netaji’s Grandnephew Chandra Bose Resigns From BJP: Netaji’s Grandnephew Chandra Bose Resigns From BJP: Chandra Bose, the grandnephew of India’s iconic nationalist leader Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, has tendered his resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today. His decision to leave the party stems from his belief that the BJP failed to fulfill its promises regarding the propagation of Netaji’s vision.
A Journey with BJP and Disappointment
Chandra Bose had joined the BJP in 2016 and had even contested elections twice on the party’s ticket: once in the 2016 assembly elections and later in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. His frustration became evident when he stated, “When I joined BJP I was promised that I would be allowed to propagate the inclusive ideology of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Sarat Chandra Bose. But nothing of that sort happened.”
A Letter to BJP National President
In his resignation letter addressed to BJP’s national president J P Nadda, Chandra Bose highlighted his initial discussions with the BJP leadership regarding the inclusive ideology of the Bose Brothers, Netaji and Sarat Chandra Bose. He had envisioned propagating this ideology throughout the country as part of the BJP’s platform. Moreover, it was agreed upon to establish an Azad Hind Morcha within the BJP framework with the primary objective of disseminating Netaji’s ideology of uniting all communities as Bharatiyas, regardless of their religion, caste, or creed.
Frustrations Over Ignored Proposals
Chandra Bose emphasized that his ardent efforts to realize these admirable objectives received no support from the BJP, both at the central and state levels in West Bengal. He had presented a detailed proposal suggesting a Bengal Strategy to connect with the people of the state, but his proposals were dismissed.
A History of Differences
Chandra Bose had previously voiced his discontent with the state BJP leadership on several occasions. He had also openly opposed the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in 2019, which put him at odds with the party’s official stance. Reacting to his resignation, BJP state spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya remarked, “For quite a long time he was not at all in touch with the party.” Chandra Bose’s resignation signals a significant development in West Bengal’s political landscape, where the BJP has been actively working to expand its presence.
