Chennai, 10 Oct (City Times): (TN seeks centre’s help): The Tamil Nadu Assembly has adopted a resolution urging the Centre to direct the Karnataka government to release water to TN based on the Supreme Court’s final judgment.

Minister Duraimurugan, Stalin urged Karnataka to release the water
He lauded the achievements in the Cauvery Delta region, where channels were systematically desilted for significant paddy production. However, he deplored the artificial blockade created by the Karnataka government, denying the rightful water for the month. Palaniswami Questioned How Drinking Water Supply To 20 Districts Will Be Ensured
Edappadi K Palaniswami of the AIADMK, leader of the opposition, while welcoming the resolution, questioned the DMK government on the measures being taken to ensure drinking water supply to 20 districts until water is received in the Cauvery. The Cauvery river water dispute dating back over 150 years has been a bone of contention determining the agriculture and economies of four riparian states of south India.The Cauvery water-sharing conflict gains political significance since the DMK and Congress are ruling Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, respectively.
The water dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka has its roots in two agreements from 1892 and 1924 between the Madras Presidency and the Mysore princely state. With the adoption of the resolution, TN has once again put forth its stance, that ensures the welfare of its farmers in the delta regions of the state.
