Bengaluru/New Delhi: chief minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah had said that his cabinet will discuss on anti-cow slaughter law passed by previous BJP government in the state. He also tried to defend animal husbandry minister K Venkatesh’s. Recently Venkatesh had said thar if buffaloes can be slaughtered then why not cows. this statement of Venkatesh created fierce protests from the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which staged statewide protests . The party also warned the Congress-led government not to repeal the Karnataka Animal Protection Act and the 2020 Cattle Protection Act.
Law was introduced by previous BJP government
The law introduced by the previous BJP government effectively replaces the repealed Karnataka Animal Protection Act and 1964 Animal Protection Act. The new law became effective from 2021. Siddaramaiah told reporters that the laws enacted by the previous BJP government were not clear enough. We will discuss the anti-killing bill in the Cabinet and we will decide on it. However he told that any decision is not taken till now on this issue. Venaktesh also said that killing old cows can reduce the difficulties faced by farmers. CM supported his statement, saying that cattle older than 12 years could be slaughtered.
BJP MLA V. Sunil Kumar Strongly recated
Siddaramaiah said that according to the 1964 (now repealed) law, there is a law to kill cows that are over 12 years old and cannot be used for agriculture.
