Mumbai, 05 September (City Times): Shyam Sunder Gupta assumed the role of Principal Chief Operations Manager at Central Railway on Tuesday, taking charge from his predecessor,Mukul Jain, who retired on August 31, 2023.Shyam Sunder Gupta is a seasoned railway officer, belonging to the 1992 batch of the Indian Railway Traffic Service.

Extensive Experience In Various Railway Operations

Over the course of his career, he has garnered extensive experience in various facets of railway operations, serving on Western Railway, South Central Railway, South East Central Railway, and Central Railway in various capacities. His roles have included Chief Freight Transportation Manager, Central Railway, Chief Passenger Transportation Manager for both Central and Western Railway, Chief Commercial Manager specializing in Freight Marketing for Central Railway, Chief Transportation Planning Manager for Central Railway, and Chief Public Relations Officer for Western Railway.

Served Across Different Railway Divisions

Throughout his distinguished career, Shyam Sunder Gupta has held critical positions in different railway divisions. He has served as the Chief Transportation Manager for Petroleum on Western Railway and as the Sr. Divisional Commercial Manager for South Eastern Railway in Kolkata. Notably, he has also acted as the Divisional Railway Manager of Raipur Division within the South East Central Railway.

A Well-Rounded Professional

Shyam Sunder Gupta’s commitment to professional development is evident in his participation in various seminars and training programs. He has attended the Advanced Management Programme at INSEAD Singapore and ICLIF, Malaysia, enhancing his skills and knowledge.

Recognitions and Awards

His contributions to the railway industry have not gone unnoticed. In 2001, he received the prestigious Railway Minister Award, followed by the General Manager’s Award in 2010. His dedication and excellence were further acknowledged when he earned the title of gold medallist and Best Participant in the 32nd Advance Management Program conducted by the National Academy of Indian Railways, Vadodara.

Previous Role

Before assuming his current position as Principal Chief Operations Manager for Central Railway, Shyam Sunder Gupta held the role of Chief Administrative Officer (Systems) at Northern Railway. His wealth of experience and proven leadership make him a valuable addition to Central Railway’s team.
