Thane, 26 August (City Times): Thane News:Two individuals hailing from Bihar have been apprehended by the Thane Crime Branch unit for possessing charas valued at ₹30 lakh. This action comes as part of intensified efforts to curb the activities of those involved in the illegal trade of drugs within the city.

Vikas Ghodke, a senior police inspector of Crime Branch Unit-5, acted on information received from a reliable source on Friday. The tip-off indicated that two individuals were en route with drugs near Mangla High School in Kopri. Acting swiftly, Ghodke and his team set up a trap and successfully arrested Prashant Kumar Rambabu Singh (27) and Premshankar Lakshminarayan Thakur (23). Both individuals hail from Parasavani district of Sitamarhi in Bihar. Subsequently, the police confiscated 2 kilograms and 60 grams of charas, with an estimated value of ₹30 lakh.

Ghodke explained, “Both accused were found to be in illegal possession of charas worth ₹30 lakh, and it appears they intended to sell it in Thane. We have taken them into custody and filed charges against them under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act. They were presented in court on Saturday and are now under police custody until August 29. Additionally, Nepali currency notes were discovered in their possession, raising the initial suspicion that they sourced the drugs from Nepal. Bhushan Shinde, the police inspector of Crime Branch Unit-5, is leading the ongoing investigation into the matter.”
