AIADMK-Led Alliance in Tamil Nadu Affirms Unwavering Principles: EPS

AIADMK Takes the Lead in Tamil Nadu’s Alliance for Lok Sabha Polls

CHENNAI, 19 July (City Times): Edappadi K Palaniswami, the general secretary of AIADMK, declared on Wednesday that the alliance for the Lok Sabha polls in Tamil Nadu would be led by the AIADMK, just as it was during the tenure of the late chief ministers M G Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa.

“It is the NDA at the national level. The AIADMK leads the alliance in Tamil Nadu,” he stated during a press conference in Delhi.

EPS, the former chief minister, asserted that the main opposition party’s popularity was on the rise in the state. He mentioned that the party’s membership had reached 1.72 crore on Tuesday, as part of the mandatory five-year renewal and enrollment exercise. This reflected the faith of the party cadre and the public in its potential return to power in the future.

During Jayalalithaa’s time, the AIADMK had a membership of 1.5 crore.

“We (the AIADMK) will never deviate from our principles,” EPS affirmed, adding that the primary objective of all parties was to win elections and form alliances.

EPS, who was seated next to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the NDA meeting on Tuesday, praised both the Prime Minister and the nine years of the NDA regime for the country’s progress.

“The world was facing an economic crisis, but India remained unaffected. The PM has overcome challenges, provided good governance, and elevated India’s standing on the global stage. The Centre caters to the needs of the youth of India, and the NDA allies support it,” he emphasized.

He accused the arch-rival DMK of doing anything to retain power, comparing their actions to that of a chameleon constantly changing colors. He also reminded that the DMK had allied with the BJP in the 1999 general election, questioning whether the national party was untouchable back then.

Regarding the DMK’s allegations of inaction against corrupt AIADMK members, Palaniswami stated that the DMK was the only party in the country that had been dissolved due to corruption charges.

During the 2G scam, A Raja and Kanimozhi Karunanidhi of the DMK faced arrests while the party was part of the Congress-led UPA regime. Currently, Ministers V Senthil Balaji and K Ponmudy are facing ED action. “The DMK lacks the moral authority to criticize the AIADMK.” They are merely targeting us with political vengeance,” he retorted.

Palaniswami regarded the Madras High Court’s dismissal of the DMK’s petition seeking a DVAC probe against him in the highways tender scam on Tuesday as a “verdict for truth.”

In light of O Panneerselvam’s call for a swift investigation by the state government into the Kodanad heist-cum-murder case, Palaniswami asserted that the ousted leader is merely acting as a ‘B’ team for the DMK. He alleged that DMK lawyers had secured bail for the accused soon after his government made arrests. Despite his request for a CBI probe, there has been no response from the DMK government, he claimed.

On the contentious Mekedatu dam plan of Karnataka, Palaniswami accused Chief Minister M K Stalin of showing great interest in forging an alliance but refusing to speak to his ally, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar. The Cauvery river remains a lifeline for farmers and a source of drinking water for 20 districts. “Why does he refrain from highlighting the serious ramifications Tamil Nadu could face, urging Shivakumar to abide by the Supreme Court’s mandate?” Palaniswami questioned.

In conclusion, the AIADMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu remains steadfast in its principles and is determined to lead the way in the Lok Sabha polls. EPS, the AIADMK general secretary, emphasized the party’s growing popularity and unwavering commitment to its values. Despite facing opposition from the DMK, EPS defended the party’s stance and criticized their actions. The Madras High Court’s dismissal of the DMK’s petition served as a verdict for truth. As the political landscape unfolds, O Panneerselvam’s demands and the contentious Mekedatu dam plan continue to be points of contention. The future holds challenges and opportunities for both parties, and their actions will shape Tamil Nadu’s political course.
