BJP State President K. Annamalai Questions DMK’s Mandapam Fishermen’s Conference

Annamalai’s comments were made during his ongoing ‘En Mann, En Makkal’ yatra

Chennai, 15 August (City Times): In a recent statement, BJP State President K. Annamalai has raised concerns about the legitimacy of the upcoming fishermen’s conference organized by the DMK in Mandapam. BJP TN President comments were made during his ongoing ‘En Mann, En Makkal’ yatra, covering all 234 Assembly Constituencies in Tamil Nadu. Speaking at a gathering in Thoothukudi, he questioned the DMK’s authority to hold such an event and pointed out the absence of Sri Lankan Navy firing incidents against Tamil Nadu fishermen since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inauguration in 2014.

BJP TN President firmly criticized the DMK’s claims of being a supporter of the fishermen’s community, citing the fact that during the UPA government’s tenure (2004-2014), when the DMK was an ally, 81 fishermen lost their lives due to naval firings. He also questioned the DMK’s promises, including pledges to build two lakh dwellings for fishermen and establish a fisheries college.

During his speech, BJP TN President emphasized the need for increased financial assistance to fishermen during the ban period. He cautioned the public to be wary of potentially “false” promises that the DMK and its allies might make as the 2024 Lok Sabha election approaches.

Highlighting the developmental strides made by the Modi government, BJP TN President pointed to achievements such as the expansion of the VOC Port and significant gains for the State through initiatives like MUDRA loans and housing programs. He expressed confidence that the BJP would secure 400 seats in the upcoming election and stressed the importance of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry collectively sending 40 MPs to the Lok Sabha to impact the DMK’s future. BJP TN President yatra continues in Srivaikuntam Assembly Constituency, with his next destination set to be Tiruchendur Assembly Constituency.
