Fishermen Attack : 4 Fishermen from Mayiladuthurai Attacked and Robbed mid-sea

Fishermen Attack : The fishermen from coastal village Pudupettai in Tharangambadi taluk in Mayiladuthurai district were attacked and robbed of their belongings by a group of unidentified persons mid-sea near Kodiyakarai coast, according to sources.

Nagapattinam, 04 Nov (City Times): (Fishermen Attack): In one more incident of atrocity by the Lankan Navy, four fishermen were attacked while they were fishing several nautical miles off the Kodiyakarai coast early Saturday.

The fishermen from coastal village Pudupettai in Tharangambadi taluk in Mayiladuthurai district were attacked and robbed of their belongings by a group of unidentified persons mid-sea near Kodiyakarai coast, according to sources.

3 unidentified persons said to be Sri Lankans attacked them

The fishermen V Senthil Kumar, J Madhan, V Sivakumar ad S Nithyanandan were fishing in a  fiberglass boat, three unidentified persons, suspected to be Sri Lankans, intercepted them and then assaulted the four with a wooden log.

In the assault, Snthil Kuma suffered bleeding injuries on his head and Madhan suffered wounds on his left leg, whi two others suffered internal injuries. The assailants took away  batteries, a GPS device, fish catches and torchlights. The fishermen managed to return to Kodiyakari and got admitted as inpatients at the Govt Hospital in Vedaranyam.

This is the eighth such incident since Aug this year. Over 40 fishermen who have ventured into sea from various coastal parts of Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai districts have suffered mid-sea attacks. (Fishermen Attack)
