Chennai, 20 June(City Times): Arrested Tamil Nadu Minister V Senthil Balaji will have open heart surgery on June 21 at a local private hospital, Health Minister Ma Subramanian announced on Tuesday, a week after the besieged DMK politician was advised to have a bypass operation. According to Mr. Subramanian, the procedure will take place early on Wednesday. Senthil Balaji must undergo the surgery, thus it will be completed tomorrow, he added. We are in contact with the hospital management, and Mr. Subramanian indicated that tomorrow morning’s open-heart operation would take place.
The Enforcement Directorate detained Mr. Balaj last week in connection with a purported cash-for-jobs fraud. He was transferred to the private clinic on the basis of a court order after being initially treated in a government hospital after complaining of chest trouble.
On June 14, the government hospital said that Mr. Balaji had undergone a coronary angiogram at which point triple vessel disease was discovered. The hospital subsequently advised Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) surgery as soon as possible. Prior to the government doctors making the diagnosis of the “critical blocks” last week, Mr. Subramanian said on Tuesday that his colleague was unaware of them.
He continued that it was approved by his family doctor and that the surgery was necessary, according to medical professionals from the ESI Hospital who were consulted by the ED. He stated that the medical staff at Kauvery Hospital is now prepared for the procedure. Earlier, the health minister stated that Mr. Balaji’s prescription medications had to be stopped, and only then could the surgery be performed.
