VIZIANAGARAM, 29 October (City TImes) – (Andhra Train Accident) : A heart-wrenching disaster unfolded on Sunday as two trains collided in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district, claiming the lives of six passengers and leaving over 40 others injured. The incident sent shockwaves through the community, with rescue and relief efforts swiftly initiated.

The fateful event transpired when the 08504 Visakhapatnam-Rayagada Passenger train and the 08532 Visakhapatnam-Palasa Passenger train came into direct collision, resulting in the derailment of three coaches from the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada train, as confirmed by railway officials.

East Central Railway CPRO reported, “Bogies derailed after a train, carrying passengers from Vizianagaram to Raigad, collided with a passenger train en route from Visakapatnam to Palasa.”

While injuries were reported, the exact figures were yet to be ascertained. The gravity of the situation was underscored by the involvement of two trains in the accident. The ongoing rescue and restoration efforts were in full swing, as railway officials worked diligently to mitigate the crisis.

Reacting to the incident, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy swiftly issued directives for immediate relief measures and dispatched a fleet of ambulances from Visakhapatnam and neighboring districts to the accident scene. The authorities were directed to ensure that nearby hospitals were fully equipped to provide essential medical care to the injured passengers.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for close coordination between the railway authorities and various government departments, including health, police, and revenue, to implement rapid-response measures and ensure that those injured received prompt medical attention.

This heart-wrenching incident comes only a few months after a catastrophic accident occurred when the Coromandel Express collided with a stationary freight train at the Bahanaga Bazar station in Balasore on June 2. Tragically, this accident claimed the lives of at least 288 individuals and left over 1,100 people with injuries of varying severity.

In response to the Vizianagaram district train collision, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy swiftly issued orders for immediate relief measures, mobilizing a fleet of ambulances from Visakhapatnam and the surrounding districts of Vizianagaram to the accident site. The Chief Minister’s proactive approach highlights the gravity of the situation and his commitment to the welfare of the affected passengers.

Furthermore, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy directed the railway authorities to collaborate closely with other government departments, including health, police, and revenue, to ensure the swift implementation of relief measures and the provision of timely and effective medical care to the injured passengers.
