The calamity unfolded in the Sairang area, situated approximately 20 kilometers from Aizawl, sending shockwaves through the region. The chief public relation officer of the Northeast Frontier Railway, Sabyasachi De, reported to ANI that a team of railway officers has been swiftly dispatched to the site. Senior officials from the railway zone are also expected to visit to assess the situation.
Mizoram’s chief minister, Zoramthanga, expressed his deep condolences, stating, “I am deeply saddened and profoundly affected by this tragedy.” He further revealed that ongoing rescue operations are underway.
