G20 Summit in Delhi : Comprehensive Traffic Plan in Place to Avoid Disruption
Security Rehearsals Conducted for Upcoming International Event
New Delhi, August 23 (City Times): (G20 Summit in Delhi) Delhi police have laid out a meticulous traffic plan to ensure uninterrupted flow of vehicles in the national capital during the 18th G-20 Summit of Heads of State and Government. The police have assured that essential services will remain unaffected during the event.
Smooth Traffic Assurance:
Special CP (Traffic), Surender Singh Yadav, stated that Delhi traffic police have developed a detailed plan encompassing railway services, bus services, emergency response, and essential services. Essential services, vital for the city, will not face any disruption.
Ambulance Services Priority:
Yadav emphasized that ambulance services will have unrestricted access throughout the city. A dedicated helpline from the Ambulance Assistance Control Room will also be established. Special motorcycle riders will facilitate the movement of ambulances. Measures are in place to ensure hassle-free distribution of essential goods, and restrictions have been set for heavy goods vehicles and auto rickshaws in certain areas.
Traffic Diversion:
The G-20 Summit is scheduled for September 9-10 in Delhi. Delhi Traffic Police is fully prepared, and extensive traffic diversions will be implemented across the city, including the NDMC area, to ensure that ambulance services remain unhindered.
Security Rehearsals:
In preparation for the G-20 Summit, Delhi traffic police conducted a full-dress carcade rehearsal on selected routes, beginning from various hotels and concluding at Pragati Maidan. The route included key roads such as Salimgarh Bypass, Mahatma Gandhi Marg, Bhairon Marg, Mathura Road, C-Hexagon, Sardar Patel Marg, and Gurgaon Road. These measures are aimed at ensuring seamless traffic during the event.
Earlier Drills:
On August 21, Delhi traffic police executed a mock drill exercise on major roads connecting Pragati Maidan to various hotels. This exercise was designed to assess and refine the restriction and diversion arrangements.
Venue and Training:
The G-20 Summit will be hosted at the state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam convention centre in Pragati Maidan. Delhi Police initiated preparations several months ago, including the training of staff to be deployed at various locations. Special emphasis has been placed on equipping personnel to handle chemical and biological threats, alongside enhancing their soft skills.
High-Profile Attendees:
The 18th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit in Delhi will bring together leaders from around the world, including notable figures like US President Joe Biden, Chinese Premier Xi Jinping, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and French President Emmanuel Macron. This event represents the culmination of a year of G20 meetings among ministers, senior officials, and civil society.
