Delegation of 21 MPs Engage with Displaced People and Relief Camps (INDIA Alliance)
Imphal, 30 July (City Times) : A delegation comprising 21 MPs from constituents of the INDIA alliance, led by Congress Lok Sabha leader Adhir Chowdhury, concluded their two-day visit to Manipur on Sunday. As part of their itinerary, the delegation engaged in a meeting with Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan to deliberate on the current state of affairs in the region marred by unrest and turmoil.
Assessing the Plight of Violence-Affected People
The delegation visited various relief camps located in Churachandpur, Bishnupur, and Imphal districts, where they interacted with people who have been affected by the recent violence. They learned about the challenging living conditions in the relief camps and observed that the people are grappling with pain, sorrow, and fear. The impact of the ongoing conflict is felt across all sections of society, including women, children, and students.
Seeking Concrete Measures for Peace and Harmony
Addressing Governor Anusuiya Uikey, Adhir Chowdhury conveyed the dire situation faced by the displaced individuals and stressed the need for immediate concrete actions to end the ongoing conflict. The MPs highlighted that the issue extends beyond a mere law and order problem, as it involves an ethnic conflict requiring special attention. They emphasized the urgency of initiatives to foster peace, restore harmony among communities, and eradicate hatred.
Memorandum Submitted for Restoration and Rehabilitation
Presenting their collective concerns and recommendations, the delegation formally handed over a comprehensive memorandum to Governor Anusuiya Uikey, emphasizing the critical need for proactive steps to reinstate peace and justice in Manipur. To achieve peace and harmony, they emphasized the urgent need for the rehabilitation and resettlement of those affected by the violence. The MPs expressed their commitment to supporting the process of restoring normalcy through peaceful dialogue and cooperation with representatives of Civil Society Organisations from both communities.
Governor’s Support for Peaceful Resolution
Governor Anusuiya Uikey welcomed the visit of the MPs and commended their efforts towards restoring peace and normalcy in Manipur. Having personally visited relief camps in both hills and valley districts, she expressed her awareness of the challenges faced by the affected people. The Governor reassured that both the Central and State governments are actively working to contain the situation and restore peace at the earliest. She stressed the importance of removing hatred and mistrust between communities through peaceful dialogues and cooperation among all stakeholders.
Appeal for Cooperative Efforts
Governor Uikey appealed to the delegates to extend their cooperation and engage in peaceful dialogues with representatives of Civil Society Organisations from both communities. By maintaining the status quo ante of peaceful co-existence, they can work towards bridging the gaps and fostering harmonious relations for a peaceful and prosperous Manipur.
