Mumbai, 26 December (City Times): (INS Imphal commission) : The Indian Navy reached a historic milestone as Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral R Hari Kumar, presided over the commissioning ceremony of the INS Imphal. This momentous occasion not only marked the official induction of a state-of-the-art stealth-guided missile destroyer but also commemorated a significant departure from tradition—the INS Imphal stands as the first warship named after a city from the northeastern region of India. The ceremony, held in Mumbai, saw Defence Minister Rajnath Singh gracing the occasion, underscoring the strategic importance of this new addition to the naval fleet.

The Navy Chief disclosed that there have been a staggering 30 drone and piracy attacks since November 19, highlighting a sharp increase compared to the previous year’s 4-5 incidents. This surge in frequency has prompted the Navy to take decisive action to protect merchant shipping. In response, INS Imphal, equipped with cutting-edge capabilities, assumes a crucial role in countering physical threats and deterring any attempts to subvert national unity.
