Nitish Kumar… Resigning … Swearing … Dramatic Return to Power

Nitish Kumar Resigns as Bihar CM, Swearing-In Today with Deputies Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Sinha

Nitish Kumar, the chief of Janata Dal (United), resigned from his position as the Chief Minister of Bihar on Sunday. After submitting his resignation letter to Governor Rajendra Arlekar, Nitish, accompanied by MLAs, left the Governor’s House. The resignation marked the end of a fast-paced political day, with Nitish also presenting letters of support from BJP legislators.

Accepting Nitish’s resignation, the Governor requested him to fulfill the role of caretaker chief minister until the formation of the new government. Nitish is set to take the oath as Chief Minister for the ninth time, joined by two deputy chief ministers from the BJP, in a swearing-in ceremony scheduled for 5 PM on the same day.

BJP’s Strategic Moves to Prevent Power Vacuum in Bihar

The BJP and JD(U) are working diligently to avoid any power vacuum in Bihar, a state known for its political dynamics. BJP national president JP Nadda is expected to arrive in Bihar, where he will be welcomed by Union Minister Nityanand Rai and former state party president MP Sanjay Jaiswal. Amid speculations regarding the deputy chief ministership, the BJP spokesperson in the state confirmed that Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha would be sworn in as Nitish’s deputies.

Nitish Kumar’s Political Journey: From Alliances to Parting Ways

Nitish Kumar, who became Chief Minister for the first time in 2000, campaigned against ‘Jungle Raaj’ under RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav. Over the years, he held the position on eight occasions. In 2013, Nitish severed ties with the NDA after a 17-year alliance, expressing discontent with Narendra Modi’s nomination as the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate.

In 2017, Nitish formed a grand alliance with the RJD and Congress, returning as Chief Minister in 2015. However, he broke away from the alliance in 2017, citing corruption allegations against the RJD and governance issues in the state. In 2022, Nitish Kumar once again distanced himself from the BJP, accusing them of conspiring against him and attempting to influence JD(U) MLAs.

Old Video Goes Viral

A video from January 2023 featuring Nitish Kumar’s remarks on the BJP resurfaced on the day of his resignation. In the video, with RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav by his side, Nitish is heard saying, “Mar jana qubool hai, unke saath jana humko kabhi qubool nahi hai, ye acchi tarah samajh lijiye” (Rough translation: Dying is acceptable, going with them is never acceptable to us, understand this). The video gained attention as Nitish Kumar decided to return to the BJP after leaving the Mahagathbandhan.

A Rollercoaster of Political Alliances and Resignation Drama

In conclusion, Nitish Kumar’s resignation and subsequent return to power mark a significant chapter in Bihar’s political landscape. His journey, filled with alliances and partings, reflects the dynamic nature of Indian politics. As Nitish takes the oath for the ninth time, the state awaits the formation of the new government and the challenges it may face.
