Tamil Nadu Government Launches Key Initiatives to Foster Startup Growth
Chennai, 26 Aug (Agency): The ‘Tamil Nadu Startup Thiruvizha 2023,’ an annual event dedicated to startups, innovation, and entrepreneurship, witnessed an impressive turnout with nearly 20,000 participants and attendees at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex in Coimbatore. The event commenced with a video message from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin.
Launch of Pivotal Initiatives
The occasion marked the introduction of significant initiatives by Thiru. TM Anbarasan, Minister for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, in the presence of Dr. TRB Rajaa, Minister for Industries, Investment Promotion, and Commerce, Thiru. V Arun Roy, I.A.S., Secretary to Government for MSME Department, and Thiru. Sivarajah Ramanathan, Mission Director and CEO of StartupTN. These initiatives aim to benefit startups and various ecosystem stakeholders.
Among these initiatives, 23 startups received sanction orders for a total equity investment of Rs. 3.05 Crore under TANSEED 5.0, the fifth edition of the Tamil Nadu Startup Seed Fund (TANSEED). This includes Rs. 15 Lakh each for 15 startups and Rs. 10 Lakh each for eight startups, bringing the total number of TANSEED awardees to 132. Additionally, a toll-free StartupTN Call Centre number, ‘155343,’ was launched. This bilingual call centre is accessible to stakeholders from Tamil Nadu from 10 AM to 6 PM on working days.
An exclusive Women Accelerator program was also unveiled to support founders of 22 women-led startups from diverse sectors. (Startup Thiruvizha 2023)
Inaugural Session and Expo
The inaugural session featured the launch of the expo, featuring more than 450 stalls by startups and startup enablers. These startups span a wide range of sectors, including Automobile, EV & Smart Mobility, Aerospace & Defence, Web 3.0, VR & AR, Circular Economy, Climate Tech & Clean Energy, SaaS, IoT, Robotics, Edu Tech, Fem Tech, Social Impact, Rural Livelihood, and Sustainability.
Over 80 startups had the opportunity to introduce their brands and products free of charge at the StartupTN Lounge. This central location within the expo hall facilitated video presentations, discussions, and audience interactions. Notably, the Metaverse experience center by the StartupTN Web3 sectoral forum drew significant attention. (Startup Thiruvizha 2023)
Investor Interaction and Awards
More than 60 startups engaged in one-on-one Speed Meeting sessions with over 50 investors, including High Net Worth Individuals, Angel Investors, and Venture Capitalists. These interactions explored potential investment prospects across various sectors.

Knowledge Sharing and Awareness
The convention boasted a lineup of over 60 speakers, including subject matter experts and esteemed figures from the startup ecosystem. Their insights captivated an audience of 1,500 attendees throughout the two-day event. The Thiruvizha served the dual purpose of reaching out to stakeholders while also raising awareness among aspiring entrepreneurs and their families about the state’s startup ecosystem and the support provided by the Government of Tamil Nadu through StartupTN.
