Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, 07 June(City Times): In a shocking incident, a notorious gangster was shot dead, and a police officer was injured outside a courtroom in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. This event raises serious concerns about the state of law and order in the region. The assailant, dressed as a lawyer, managed to slip past security with a revolver and carry out the brutal attack. The incident took place around 3:30 pm when gangster Sanjiv Maheshwari, also known as Sanjiv Jeeva, was entering the courtroom. He was shot in the back, resulting in his immediate collapse on the ground. A video from the scene shows officials trying to stop the bleeding from his gunshot wounds.During the attack, a police officer was also shot in the leg. Fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening, and he is currently out of danger. A woman and her child were also injured during the incident.
Lucknow police were quick to apprehend the attacker, who was later handed over to them by the lawyers present at the court. Joint CP Upendra Agarwal stated, “The attacker has been arrested. The question of multiple attackers is under investigation.”
Background of the Deceased Gangster
Sanjiv Jeeva had a long history of criminal activity, with at least a dozen criminal cases against him. He was known to run several criminal syndicates in Uttar Pradesh, particularly in the western region of the state. Jeeva had been incarcerated for many years, with reports suggesting that he had been involved in as many as 50 criminal cases across Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Some reports also suggest that Jeeva had associations with eastern Uttar Pradesh gangsters like Mukhtar Ansari. However, further details about these connections are yet to be confirmed. The attack raises serious questions about the security measures in place at the court premises. It is unclear how the assailant managed to sneak a revolver into the court and carry out the attack without being detected. This incident comes just two months after daylight killing of gangster, Atiq Ahmed and his brother in police custody in police custody in a hospital premises while talking to media persons on camera. The recurrence of such events highlights the urgent need for improved security measures and better law enforcement in the state.
Implications for Uttar Pradesh’s Law and Order
The attack on Jeeva and the injured policeman has brought the state of law and order in Uttar Pradesh under scrutiny once again. The public’s faith in the local law enforcement agencies is likely to be shaken as they question the ability of the police to maintain order and protect citizens. The incident may also have political ramifications, as opposition parties could use the event to criticize the current government’s handling of crime and law enforcement. The administration will need to take swift action to address these concerns and demonstrate their commitment to improving the situation.
Enhanced Security Measures
One immediate step that can be taken to address the situation is enhancing security measures at court premises and other sensitive locations. This may include the installation of metal detectors, increased surveillance, and stricter access controls.
Better Training and Equipment for Law Enforcement
To prevent future incidents, law enforcement agencies must be provided with better training and equipment. This includes advanced weaponry, body armor, and communication devices. Additionally, training programs should focus on improving the tactical and strategic capabilities of officers.
Strengthening Intelligence Networks
A strong intelligence network is crucial for identifying and apprehending criminals before they can carry out attacks. Law enforcement agencies should invest in building better intelligence networks, including the use of informants and undercover operations.
Collaboration with Other States
Criminals often operate across state borders, making it challenging for law enforcement agencies to track and apprehend them. To counter this, Uttar Pradesh law enforcement should collaborate with their counterparts in neighboring states to share information and resources. The brutal attack on gangster Sanjiv Jeeva and the injured policeman at the Lucknow courtroom serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in Uttar Pradesh. It is crucial for the state government to take immediate and effective measures to address the security lapses and improve the law and order situation in the region. If left unaddressed, such incidents may continue to erode public trust in the system and have long-term implications for the state’s political and social stability.
