New Delhi,18 June (City Times): 54 people died and about 400 were admitted to Ballia District Hospital in Uttar Pradesh in the last three days due to rising temperature and Heatwave. Doctors said that while there are a variety of causes of death, intense heat could be the main cause. Due to the intense heat, hospital admissions are increasing, it said. A severe heatwave has spread, with temperatures exceeding 40ºC in most places.
A surge in the number of deaths and patients admitted to hospitals with fevers, respiratory problems and other problems has overwhelmed the hospital and put staff on high alert.
Chief medical officer at Ballia District, Dr. SK Yadav said while talking to media persons that 23 patients lost their lives on June 15, on 16 th june 20 patients died and on 17 th june 11 patients were declared dead after they did not recover after treatment. Dr. BP Tiwari, director of complementary health at Azamgarh Circle, said the team came from Lucknow to investigate the possible presence of an undetected disease. When it is too hot or too cold, patients with respiratory diseases, diabetes and high blood pressure are at higher risk. Dr Tiwari speculated that a slight increase in mercury levels may have caused their death.
The district hospital is so crowded that patients are unable to get stretchers and many attendants carry patients on their backs to the emergency room. However, the Additional Health director said it is difficult to handle ten patients coming at the same time.However he denied that there is shortage of stretchers in the hospital.
UP Health Minister Brajesh Pathak said the government takes the Ballia incident seriously and is personally monitoring the situation. He said that Two senior doctors of director level are sent to the scene of the accident. They will shortly inform the administration in writing about the situation. He also informed that Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Diwakar Singh is relieved from his duty for “making a careless statement about heatwave deaths without having any relevant information”.
Due to cyclone Biparjoy in UP, the heat may be relieved in the coming days. But it will be hot for two days. Barabanki, Gonda, Ayodhya, Amethi, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh, Kaushambi, Sultanpur, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Sonbhadra, Ghazipur, Deoria, Mau, Ballia, Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Ambedkarnagar, Santbakir Nagar will be hot.
The temperature in Odisha’s Bhubaneswar has crossed 44 degrees. The Inter State Athletics Championship is being organized here. Female athlete Tejaswini Shankar fainted due to extreme heat. Other players were seen pouring water on their heads. At the same time, one person has died due to heatwave in the state.
Bihar Meteorological Department has issued red alert in 6 districts, orange alert in 8 districts and yellow alert in 4 districts due to heat wave for the second day in a row. Rohtas, Buxar, Aurangabad, Bhojpur, Arwal and Kaimur are on red alert. In many districts, schools up to 12th and Anganwadi have been closed till June 24.
In Chhattisgarh this year, the scorching heat in June is being linked to this weather phenomenon. Monsoon generally arrives from 10 to 15 June and pre-monsoon rains begin two to three days before monsoon. Therefore, the heat is not felt much in June. This year the monsoon is late and the heat is getting hotter.
Due to rains in Assam, the water level of Brahmaputra river has increased significantly. There are flood situations in surrounding districts.Disaster management department informed that around 38,000 people in 13 districts of Assam have been affected by floods. 25,275 people have been affected in Lakhimpur district alone, while 3857 people have been affected in Dibrugarh and 3631 people in Biswanath district. On Saturday, a person died in a land slide in Guwahati’s Dhirenpara area.
